Breaking News here at the CA News Desk and it comes straight from the mouth of a Hull woman who received a scam call.

The scammers were claiming to be from HMRC, and they didn’t waste any time in launching an attack at the innocent woman from Hull.

“You are going to be arrested!” They shouted down the phone.

“There is a fraud investigation being launched against you,” they went on to add.

As you can imagine, the woman from Hull was left speechless and for a brief second she really did think this was the REAL HMRC.

“Press 1 to make a payment or you will be arrested,” said the scammer.

The woman from Hull was about to press the number 1 button, still in shock and a bit frightened…But then…

“Hang on a minute, this is a scam call isn’t it?” said the Hull woman.

“NO!” replied the scammer.

“I don’t believe you,” she said in a tone a bit louder, becoming defiant, and then slamming the phone down.

She then quickly thought to phone the REAL HMRC hotline and enquire about her pending arrest and fraud investigation…only to be told there was nothing.

Surprise, surprise.

Unfortunately, not everybody is as quick thinking or as “in the know” as this Hull woman who beat the scammer.

For example, there are many elderly people who fall prey to this type of scam, day in and day out.

These HMRC scammers are becoming more convincing and sneaky with their shenanigans, and it doesn’t take much to fool people. Even people who consider themselves intelligent. You can easily fall for a fake HMRC scam. Many people have, and many people will continue to do so.

The solution? Hire a contractor accountant. It really is as simple as that.

You then leave all of the details of your incomings and outgoings with them, and if you get a call about “prison” or “fraud investigation” you simply say…

“Speak to my Contractor Accountant, they deal with that stuff.”
