The Chartered Institute of Taxation has criticised the government’s decision to push ahead with the Finance Bill before the general election. They believe that rushing through the proposals could lead to loopholes and an overly complicated tax system.

I was reading up on the House of commons Finance Committee’s debate on the BN66 case – that’s the one about retrospectively taxing people who thought they had joined a valid scheme and suddenly found they hadn’t.

If you are one of those who have decided they are caught by IR35, you are no doubt aware that your options regarding taxes paid are fairly limited. 95% of your gross, less some allowable expenses, is the rule. However, there is a way to remove some (or even all) of your gross from the clutches of IR35.
